Davenport named Great Place!

Iowa Great Places logoDavenport is a Great Place, the State of Iowa said so!

More specifically, the Iowa Department of Cultural Affairs said so, including Davenport’s Main Street Landing among nine Great Places announced recently. Davenport’s downtown also received a Cultural and Entertainment District designation.

The re-designation allows the City to apply for grant funding for the Main Street Landing that is undergoing a multi-phase facelift. Davenport first received the Great Places designation in 2007. The cultural and entertainment designation, applied for by the Davenport Downtown Partnership and Quad-Cities Convention and Visitors Bureau, also makes it eligible for grant funding.

Since first receiving the Great Place designation in 2007, Davenport has received $556,000 in grant funding for riverfront projects.

The City received $286,000 for the Centennial Park Active Recreation Corridor, $100,000 for the Centennial Park Sprayground, $100,000 for the Front Porch Parkway River Drive medians, and $70,000 for the LeClaire Park bandshell addition.
