2nd St Resurfacing Project

09/29/22 | Great news! E 2nd St will fully re-open to traffic on Friday, September 30.

09/23/22 | With asphalt applied on the westbound lanes of E 2nd St late last week, resurfacing work is nearly complete. Finish work such as sidewalk intersections and utility points is expected to continue through the end of September. Once complete, the road will be fully re-opened. Look for updates next week.

08/26/22 | The E 2nd St resurfacing project is not only moving right along - it is moving quickly. With work in the eastbound lanes nearly complete, work will transition to the westbound lanes along with a flip in the travel direction. Beginning Monday, August 29, eastbound 2nd St will re-open, and westbound 2nd St will close. During this stage, eastbound motorists will not be able to turn left onto side streets, except for Brady St, and parking will only be available on the eastbound side. Access to the Government Bridge returns to normal via eastbound 2nd St only. The project is estimated to be complete by early October.

Note: On Monday, August 29, right turns onto Main St or 2nd St from Main St will not be permitted for sidewalk finish work. Additionally, a limited number of parking spaces will be closed on the eastbound side to allow concrete to properly cure in the area. Please do not move cones or barricades that are delineating the curing concrete.

08/19/22 | E 2nd St resurfacing work is coming right along. Asphalt was applied to the eastbound lanes earlier in the week. Finish work such as sidewalk intersections and utility points is expected to continue in the eastbound lanes through the end of August. Once complete work will flip to the westbound lanes. Look for updates next week.

07/12/22 | Davenport is bringing more highly-anticipated improvements to another major thoroughfare beginning August 1 with resurfacing of 2nd St between Harrison St and the Government Bridge. Planned work should be complete by early-to-mid-October 2022.

Work will begin in the eastbound lanes and then transition to the westbound lanes in early September. Travel will be maintained in the lane opposite the work zone. For example, westbound travel will be allowed when work is performed in the eastbound lanes and vice versa when work transitions to the westbound lanes.

Parking and turning traffic will also be impacted.

  • Right-hand turns will be permitted.  Left-hand turns will only be allowed at Harrison and Brady as applicable to travel. *In the initial phase Iowa bound travel will not be permitting turning onto 2nd St.
  • Parking will not be permitted on the side where active construction is taking place.

Access to the Government Bridge will be maintained via LeClaire St during the first phase of the project.  During the second phase of the project, Iowa-bound bridge traffic should use LeClaire St to 3rd or 4th St.
