July 1, 2021 - Join Davenport Parks and Recreation this July for National Park and Recreation Month, as we celebrate how Davenport is stronger, more vibrant and more resilient because of parks and recreation. A variety of activities are planned for residents of all ages and abilities — including virtual activities via social media platforms, three Party in the Park events (July 8, 22 and 29), and Youth Fest on July 14 at Fejervary Learning Center.

“Park spaces and recreation programming are uniquely positioned to provide communities with structured, planned activities as well as self-led, unstructured free time” said Chad Dyson, Director of Parks and Recreation. “Both types of activity promote and increase a community’s health, well-being, and connectedness among families, friends and neighbors alike. Celebrating parks and recreation month via storytelling is an opportunity to highlight the shared experiences in our parks across the city.”

Davenport Parks and Recreation will celebrate Park and Recreation Month with daily virtual activities for the whole family including weekly themed selfie challenges, a virtual scavenger hunt, and a video storytelling series from Parks and Recreation staff. At Party in the Park and Youth Fest, participants can share their own park and recreation stories with staff. For details about July’s activities, visit www.davenportiowa.com/NPRM.

Park and Recreation Month is an initiative of the National Recreation and Park Association (NRPA). NRPA encourages people that support parks and recreation to share their park and recreation story, as well as why their local park and recreation professionals are important to them, with the hashtag #OurParkAndRecStory.
