Better Roads Davenport

Find the full list of construction planned for 2026 at this link.

Change is happening. Bear with us!
Street and sewer improvements can lead to inevitable slowdowns and traffic reroutes. We ask that you keep your eye on the prize: a city with enhanced livability that can support existing business infrastructure as well as attract new companies. It’s a short-term hassle with long-term payoffs.

As always, safety is our number one priority. Staying calm and following construction zone signage will help us achieve that.

As we work to modernize the sewer and street infrastructure to support growth and a vibrant future for our community, remember: there are better roads ahead, Davenport!

Current Traffic Updates

This Just In

  • Great news for Rockingham Road! The road sees a lot of use and finishing reconstruction between Farragut and Elmwood right on schedule is a big win. The project included better alignment of utilities and boulevard, ADA sidewalk ramp, and drainage improvements.
  • Riverfront Trail Closure. Beginning next week, the trail will be closed between Mound Street and McClellan Boulevard for work on the Railroad Quiet Zone project. Because of the location, there isn't a safe detour around this section of the trail. We know this is an inconvenience, especially for those who love the trail in the summer, but the temporary closure is the safest option while heavy equipment is working near the railroad tracks. Thanks for your patience as we complete this important safety improvement over the next couple weeks.
  • Iowa American Water Company will detour all westbound travel on River Dr between Brown and Myrtle to head-to-head in the eastbound lanes beginning July 13. Work is estimated to be complete by July 20.
  • S Concord St will have intermittent closures between Rockingham Rd and McKinley Ave for a lead water service replacement by Iowa American Water Company. Work is estimated to be complete by July 17.
  • The trial traffic safety changes at River Dr, River St, and McClellan Blvd are now in place. Access to River St from River Dr is closed. Instead, drivers will turn onto McClellan Blvd, and then make another turn to reach River St. The 90-day trial will give the city time to evaluate whether the new layout successfully slows speeds and improves safety. If the configuration proves effective, permanent improvements are planned for later this year.
  • Iowa American has various water main, hydrant work, and temporary winter patch replacements happening across the city including Glendale Blvd and Ryan Ct, 32nd and Grand, 32nd and Davenport, River Dr and Myrtle, 53rd and Vine, 5100 block Ricker Hill Rd, 5th and Oak, and 69th and Division.
Neighborhood Streets
  • E Garfield St will be reconstructed between Lorton Ave and Forest Rd starting July 13. The project will include reconstructing the intersection of Lorton and Garfield. All work is estimated to be complete by mid-September.

Park Access Impacted by Construction

  • 07.10.26 | Riverfront Trail Closure. You can find out more about the project at this link.
  • 05.01.26 | Goose Creek Connector Trail update. The closure of 39th St between Eastern Ave and Mississippi Ave is expected to continue through June. Four sections of the trail remain under construction in the area. Two of the sections will be completed mid-May, the final two sections will be wrap-up by early July. On-going utility conflicts have resulted in delays.

  • 05.01.26 | The Duck Creek Recreational Trail crossing over Eastern Avenue will shift beginning Wednesday, May 6, for full reconstruction of the bridge. The crossing will use the entrance to Eastern Ave Park.

While the work is ongoing, you can get to the park from the north, and trail access is marked.

When work is complete, the new bridge will shift the trail crossing under the bridge. Find details at this link.

  • 04.04.25 | Use this link for information on the closures of the Riverfront Walk and Riverfront Recreational Trail near the Main Street Landing Project.
