The annual Good Neighbor Project meeting was held Tuesday, May 21 at St. Ambrose University. GNP attendees received analytics and updates from City Staff and Davenport Police, and listened to guest speaker, Orlando Rodriguez, Supervisor of the Seventh District High Risk Unit, discuss the new special public safety unit within the IDOC-7th. What Is the Good Neighbor Project
The Good Neighbor Project is neighborhood program that is designed to fit the individual needs of community neighborhoods. There is no formal process to follow and there are no requirements for neighborhood boundaries, size, or meeting expectations. The goals of the program are:

  • To Empower and Stabilize neighborhoods by connecting neighbors and building meaningful relationships
  • To foster and encourage natural crime prevention and community engagement through the process of forming functioning neighborhood groups
  • To enhance communication and collaboration with citizens through a partnership with City staff and the Davenport Police Department

Register Your Neighborhood

When you register your neighborhood with the Good Neighbor Project, you add your contact information to the communication list used by Sgt Andrew Harris and Allie McWilliams to share information with you and your neighbors about community updates, opportunities, alerts, events, and more.

Benefits of Knowing Your Neighbors
  • Creating a sense of safety and belonging
  • You get access to information and resources. You can find out what’s happening on your street and in your city.
  • Your neighborhood becomes safer. Many times neighbors are the first responders and the first to report. Do your neighbors know how to get ahold of you if they notice things like:  
    • Your garage door open?
    • A stranger lurking around your car?   
    • Your mail piling up?
  • You may find out that an assumption based on a first impression is incorrect.
  • You receive support and help as well as notice others in need. 
  • You feel good! When you say hello in passing, wave when you drive by, or simply smile at a neighbor, you feel included with a stronger sense of belonging.
  • Your social circle then expands. Seeing a familiar face daily leads to long lasting relationships.
  • Try practicing the 9 House Model. In residential areas each homeowner or renter should try to get to know the neighbors that live in the three homes behind them, the three homes across the street from them and the neighbors on either side. The idea is to get to know some of the neighbors who live closest to you and then you can share contact information with each other in case any needs or emergencies arise. Business sized contact cards are a perfect way to carry your neighbors information.
  • Continue communication with neighbors by hosting meetings, by starting a newsletter or sending out email updates, creating a social media group or by downloading the NextDoor App.

Neighborhood Services and Resources
  • Sign up for Alert Iowa notifications for weather alerts, ward meetings, volunteer opportunities, snow emergencies, street closures and more.
  • To request Public Works services for potholes, overgrown weeds, illegal dumping, debris, abandoned vehicles and more you can download the See, Click, Fix app on your mobile device and watch your request progress until it is completed and closed.   • Do you know someone in your neighborhood who is in need but you don't know what resources are available in our community? This list of General Agencies provides contact information and types of assistance available.
  • The Coordinated Assessment Program (CAP) - is here to help. They're on a mission to connect all Scott County families to the resources needed to support the health, happiness and ongoing success for youth. Their qualified professionals specialize in helping families build individualized care plans for their children - which can range from advocacy, educational support, therapy, medical and medication management, and basic needs to behavioral health intervention.

Submit an Anonymous Tip

The Davenport Police Department has partnered with Crime Stoppers of the Quad Cities to make it simple for everyone to anonymously report information. If you see or hear something suspicious or concerning, we encourage you to submit an anonymous tip, anytime/anywhere. There are two ways to do this:

Hosting an Event? Check out these resources

Interested in throwing a large gathering or special event? 

If so, and if you answer "yes" to any of the following questions, a Special Event Application needs to be submitted at least 30 days in advance:

  • Do you need to close or block a street?
  • Are you interested in using a public park, sidewalks or the bike path?
  • Will your event extend outside of your facility onto a public sidewalk or other public right-of-way?
  • Will you be exceeding the noise ordinance (for example: band, outdoor music)?

Please review the City's Special Event Policy prior to submitting your Special Event Application.  The policy provides important information to consider when planning your event.  Once your application is received, we will help you navigate any processes necessary for holding your event.

If you are expecting a large crowd, you will also need to check the requirements for mass gatherings and submit a Mass Gathering Permit Application to the Scott County Health Department.

Will your event have fireworks? 

If so, a Special Event Application is required for a noise variance as well as a fireworks permit from the Davenport Fire Department. Please review the Fireworks Special Event Permit Process. Additional information on the Fire Department requirements can be found here.
