Staying the Course: Celebrating the 60th Anniversary of the Davenport Civil Rights Commission

July 5, 2022 marks the 60th Anniversary of the establishment of the Davenport Civil Rights Commission. 

This year we are honoring the history and work of the Commission by holding a conference to further the mission of the Commission: Staying the Course to ensure the elimination of discrimination in Davenport.  The dates of the conference are July 6th and 7th. 

Attendees will be able to hear from experts in the academic, social welfare, and legal fields on topics relating to Fair Housing, Social Justice, Discrimination, and much more. In-Person and Virtual Attendance will be possible at this conference to accommodate people who can't or would rather not attend in-person. CLEs and CEUs are available for attendees!

Fair Housing Track, Social Justice Track, OR  A La Carte Sessions

Course List: 

Each track below offers 12 hours of CLE credit, including 3 hours of Ethics credit and 4 hours of Diversity credit in the Social Justice Track. 

Fair Housing Track: Criminal Records Screening and the Law; Source of Income Discrimination; Sexual Harassment in Housing; Reasonable Accommodations; Nuisance/Crime Free Ordinances; Fair Housing Legal Updates; Affordable Housing Crisis; LGBTQ Discrimination and Bostock Decision 

Social Justice Track: Do They Matter? Bias Impact; Trauma Informed Interviewing; Income and Wealth Inequality; Collateral Consequences of the War on Drugs; Death by 1000 Cuts- The Emotional Harm of Discrimination; Staying the Course- By Any Means Necessary

The entirety of the conference will take place in the NORTH building of the RiverCenter. The parking ramp for the RiverCenter is attached to the SOUTH building, and you will need to walk across the skybridge or 3rd Street outside to reach the North Building. Mississippi Hall is where the introduction and keynotes will take place, and it is where food will be served. Food is provided for both breakfast and lunch. Lunch is buffet style, and both meals are provided by an in-house chef at the RiverCenter.

Lodging:

Hotel Blackhawk is attached to the RiverCenter, and will have a limited number of rooms blocked off at a discounted rate. Their website is here: Hotel Blackhawk

The DoubleTree by Hilton is connected by skywalk to the South Building of the RiverCenter. 

Other nearby hotels include: The Current (this hotel is 1 and 1/2 blocks south west of the RiverCenter), The Holiday Inn Rock Island is right across the river in Rock Island, Illinois (would need ground transportation), and many other hotels requiring ground transportation all around Davenport, Rock Island, Moline, and Bettendorf. 

Parking:

From Interstate 80:
Follow Interstate 80 to the US 61/Welcome Way (Davenport) Interchange.  Take US 61 South exit and Follow through Davenport until downtown. Turn left (Eastbound) on Third Street. The RiverCenter Adler Theatre will be three blocks ahead on the left.  The RiverCenter will occupy both sides of the street beyond the Adler Theatre.

From Interstate 74:
Follow Interstate 74 to the Grant Street /State Street Interchange.  Follow Grant Street West along the River (one-way turning into undivided two-way River Drive).  Stay on River Drive into downtown Davenport.  Turn right at US 61 North (Brady Street).  Proceed North two blocks to Third Street and turn right.  The RiverCenter Adler Theatre will be on the immediate left, and the RiverCenter will occupy both sides of the street beyond the Adler Theatre.

Free 2 Hour On-street parking
On-street parking is free, and the 2 hour limit does not apply on Saturday and Sunday.  Enforcement begins at 7:00 a.m. and ends at 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday.

Parking Ramps
Pay at the pay stations located in the ramp, or use the ParkMobile App. Hourly/Daily – $1 for two hours, $2 for four hours, $3 for six hours, $4 for eight hours, $5 for twelve hours. The maximum daily rate is $10. Park for free in the ramps on the following holidays: New Year’s Day, Easter, Thanksgiving Day and Christmas Day.
